October 1, 2011 Fall came in like a lion for our October Open House, but 207 visitors roared in to visit the lighthouse. The winds were very strong out of the west northwest for most of the day, providing a great view of the sandbar and the power of the two mighty bodies of water- and the reason why the Point Lookout Lighthouse was built many years ago! Without heat in the lighthouse, the winds blew through the back doors and provided a chill to the first floorl The wind and tide could be seen fighting each other off the sand bar to the south of the lighthouse. Our visitors were from all over, some were visiting family in Maryland, others were in the county for the Meet the Parent's Day at nearby St Mary's College. One couple came to visit the area where they were stationed in 1941 at Pax River.
